Ingredients

  • Peel of 2 grapefruits
  • Peel of 2 oranges. 
  • Peel of 1 lemon.  
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract (or) 1 vanilla bean sliced lengthwise. Home-make it!  
  • 1/4 tsp clove powder (or) 5 whole cloves.
  • 1/4 tsp caraway seeds.  
  • 1/4 tsp fennel seeds.  
  • 2 sticks cinnamon.  
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom powder (or) 3 cardamom pods.  
  • 1/4 tsp allspice powder (or) 10 whole allspice berries.  
  • 1/8 tsp coriander powder (or) 1/8 tsp coriander seeds.  
  • 2 cups of alcohol of your choice

Utensils Tips

Here is a list of the simplest utensils that you can use; the ones Mom should already have in the kitchen:)

Utensils:
– cheesecloth
– saucepan
– small funnel
– glass bottles, or storage containers, for bottling and serving, you can either use the glass Jar you used before, or just buy a second one. 

Instructions

Place the 2 grapefruit peels, 2 orange peels and 1 lemon peel into your blender. Pulse until coarsely chopped.

Add powdered spice’s that you are using into a clean mug. Pour hot water into the mug to allow the spices to steep. The water will leach the delicious flavors out of the clove, coriander, cardamom, allspice, etc.

Any whole spices should go directly into your mason jar.

After 5 minutes, pour the steeped spice mixture into the coffee filter.

Once the mixture has fully dripped through the filter, add it to the 32 oz ball mason jar.

Add ALL whole spices & extracts to the mason jar.

Combined all the ingredients into a container close and shake.

Aging and Straining Your Citrus Bitters Liqueur Recipe

Let sit in a cool dry place for 1-3 weeks taste when right strain it.

Straining, some prefer the look of having the leaves in the bottle others prefer to strain using a cheesecloth.

When using a cheesecloth to strain when you get to the point where you have strained everything out.

You can gently wring the cheesecloth to extract all of the remaining liquid and juice.
